Beautiful oil painting by Eymer depicting the Melkbrug over the Spaarne in the centre of Haarlem. This drawbridge was about 1890 replaced by a swing bridge that still exists today.
The preliminary study drawn for this painting is in the possession of the Noord-Hollands Archief.
Arnoldus Johannes Eymer was born in Amsterdam on 17 June 1803 and died in Haarlem on 21 January 1863. From 1840 he worked and lived in Haarlem. He was educated at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam.

At the back of the panel there is a small reinforcement that has been applied to contain an incipient crack in the panel. Furthermore, the work is in a very good condition.
