Antique painting, oil on canvas, dating back to the late 16th and early 17th century, depicting an evocative Pentecost.
Work of excellent quality, whose pictorial surface is particularly accurate and has mottled shades, with passages of remarkable quality, which evoke a Nordic, Flemish-style process, but also a naturalism of Emilian taste. This aspect, together with the stylistic character and the design and expressive typology of the faces suggest the works of Denijs Calvaert, known as Dionisio Fiammingo (Antwerp, 1540 - Bologna, 1619), a documented artist in Rome and later in Bologna where he opened a workshop in which Guido Reni, Domenichino and Albani studied, and whose style was based on the examples of Prospero Fontana and Lorenzo Sabbatini.
The author, therefore, could be sought in the circle of artists operating in contact with Calvaert.
In a beautiful XIX century frame, golden and decorated with leaf motifs, with some flaws and defects.
In good overall condition considering the age of the painting, some old scattered restorations and some light peeling, but nothing really significant. There are no conservative problems, the copper has no noticeable breakages or defects. Fine craquelure compatible with age.
