Wooden head of a Naga man
The "Nagas" are an ethnic group with an unmistakable common identity living in northeastern India and Myanmar in a particularly rugged area, in and around the Indian state of Nagaland. They are associated with the Adivasi (scheduled tribes).
The Konyaks, the Phoms, the Wanchos and the Angamis made wooden heads that symbolise a deceased person.
The wooden sculpture was honoured until the soul of the deceased has been "passed on" and the energy it contains has been extinguished
